Boston, MA – Mass United claimed the Massachusetts final and advanced to the regional stage of the National Amateur Cup on Sunday with a 1-0 last-minute win over Southie FC at Roberto Clemente Field. The winning tally came in the final minute from United stalwart Denivaldo DaSilva and was made possible by a tremendous effort by both the United defense and by keeper Reynato Barbosa Paiva. United reached the final by way of a 3-1 win over Mass Premier Soccer (MPS) on November 3rd.
United now waits to see who they will compete against for the Region I crown in Pennsylvania this spring. Not all other states in the region have reached their finals but full details will announced as soon as they become available.
Special congratulations and kudos to Southie FC on a spectacular inaugural season. The boys in neon finished second in the Massachusetts State Soccer League and of course were state finalists in the Amateur Cup. That is quite the introduction to the soccer community. Well done Southie, we look forward to more battles next season.
Next up for United is MPS in the state final of US Open Cup qualifying. The final will be played on November 24th at 2pm, also at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston.
