Salem, MA- Mass United (0-4-3, 4 pts) hosted Ironbound Soul SC (3-2-1, 11 pts) on Saturday night in American Soccer League play, falling 3-1 despite playing well. United pulled to within a goal after falling behind 2-0 on a PK from Lassana Sanha but the sought after equalizer wouldn’t materialize before Ironbound sub Alfred Santhonax stretched the lead back to two in the 84th minute.
After a scoreless first half it didn’t take long for the offenses to come to life. It was Ironbound forward Christiano Francois who opened the scoring in the 50th minute, and then added another seven minutes later. Never a squad to quit, United pushed back. Midfielder Denivaldo DaSilva weaved his way through the Ironbound defense and into the box in the 68th minute, drawing a foul and giving United a chance to get back into it. A chance Sanha capitalized on.
With over 20 minutes left, a determined United would have chances for an equalizer but none would come to fruition and a fresh-legged Santhorax would ice the game for Ironbound with six minutes left.
Next up for United is Philadelphia Fury (3-1-3, 10 pts). The first ever match between the two clubs will be played in Washington Township, NJ at Washington Township high School with a 7pm kickoff. Follow @massunitedfc on twitter to keep up with your Riders both during the game and anytime.
