United Re-signs Dumbuya

Boston, MA– Mass United has announced its first official signing for 2013 and it comes in the form of the returning John “J.J.” Dumbuya. The 6’1″ center back from Sierra Leone was an integral part of an improved United defense last season and was rewarded for it by being named a USASA Region I All-Star for 2012. Both the club and defender expect that improvement to continue this season. On his re-signing Dumbuya said, “I’m very excited. The club is going in the right direction and I want to be a part of that. I like the way (Head) coach (Jim Antonakas) goes about things.”

Returning United defender John “J.J.” Dumbuya addresses his teammates before the second half of United’s win in Brooklyn last season.

I asked the big man what his goals for the upcoming season are and he didn’t hold back. “We want to win championships. Our goal is not just to compete for the NPSL (National Premier Soccer League) championship, but in the (U.S.) Open Cup and Amateur Cup as well.” In order to reach these goals, he believes United simply has to, “play together, as a team. We’re bringing in good players, so we have the talent. But we have to play together.”

I think the attitude of the player and the club for 2013 can be summed up by J.J.’s one word answer to my last, and semi-tongue-in-cheek, question. So your expectations are high then? “Yes.”
