United Fights Back for Draw

Salem, MA- Mass United (0-6-3, 6 pts) faced American Soccer League-leading Western Mass PSC (6-4-0, 22 pts) on Saturday night, fighting back from a 2-goal deficit in a wind-swept rain to draw 2-2 at Salem St. University’s Alumni Field. Both Western Mass goals came by way of a brace by Will Daniels (29th & 56th minutes) but were not enough for the win, with Carlos Diniz (64th minute) and Jared Joaquin (69th) pulling United even. The result was just enough to keep Western Mass at the top of the league table, finishing one point ahead of Icon FC and taking the fall season crown.
The biggest factor in the match by far was the weather. A wind-driven rain was unrelenting through most of the match and affected both teams greatly. Crosses started deep in the corner were bent towards the top of the box and prevented both teams from easily carrying out their offensive plans. As both teams struggled with the wind, chances were plenty, but neither team could establish a clear advantage.
Next up for United is Rhode Island Oceaneers, the exact date and time of the make-up game will soon be announced.
