UPSL Announces Florida Expansion with Celta Orlando

Orlando, FL-Based Club Joins Southeast Conference for 2020 Season

February 6, 2020 – Los Angeles – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Celta Orlando as a member kicking off with the 2020 Spring Season.

Based in Orlando (Fla.), Celta Orlando is a registered business in the State of Florida, and will begin UPSL play in the Southeast Conference Florida Central Division. The club will host its home games at Cypress High School (1101 Bear Crossing Dr., Orlando, FL 32824) in compliance with UPSL National Division standards.

United Premier Soccer League Florida Division Manager Christian Vallejos said, "We're pleased to welcome Celta Orlando to UPSL Florida. This is a club that believes in the UPSL on a fundamental level, and wants to invest in players from the start. The club's deep connection to Spanish giants Celta Vigo makes them a serious contender for years to come. We wish Celta Orlando the best of luck as the club prepares for the upcoming 2020 Spring Season."

Celta Orlando is the part of the development program for the Vigo, Spain-based professional club. Celta Orlando will compete exclusively in the UPSL.

Stelian Baban is President and Head Coach of Celta Orlando. Nelson Velez is the Administrative Director. Alejandro Baralt is the Athletic Director and Assistant Coach.

"Celta chose to play in the UPSL because of the competitiveness and organization that the league brings. We believe in the future of the league and look forward to having the entire academy participate in the UPSL," Baralt said.

Celta Orlando Academy participates in the UPSL Youth Academy Division. Celta Orlando Academy focuses on developing players for Celta Orlando and opening doors to professional opportunities.

The club will announce its upcoming game schedule.

Celta Orlando is an American Soccer club currently based in Orlando, Fla., and a new member of the United Premier Soccer League. Celta Orlando will begin play in the UPSL Southeast Conference.

Founded in 2019, Celta Orlando can participate in the qualifying rounds for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup through their affiliation and membership with the UPSL, the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).

United Premier Soccer League

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America, with 500-plus teams targeted for 2021. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining UPSL National League minimum standards.

UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
